Description
Abarth 500 / 595 / 695 Hydraulic Concentric Slave Cylinder
A replacement hydraulic concentric slave cylinder (CSC) for the Abarth 500, 595, and 695. The concentric slave cylinder is the hydraulic actuator that operates the clutch release bearing — it sits inside the gearbox bellhousing, concentric with the input shaft, and is operated directly by the clutch master cylinder via the hydraulic clutch line. A failed or leaking CSC will result in clutch disengagement problems and must be replaced to restore correct clutch operation. Recommended as a replacement item whenever the gearbox is removed for clutch or flywheel work.
Key Specifications
- Fitment: Abarth 500, 595, and 695
- Component: Hydraulic concentric slave cylinder (CSC)
- Location: Inside gearbox bellhousing, concentric with input shaft
OEM Cross-Reference Part Numbers
This concentric slave cylinder replaces the following OEM part numbers:
- 55210245 / 55210246 / 55214650
- 55224014 / 55231613 / 55238614
- 55240573 / 55243919 / 55243920
- 55243921 / 6000100339
Symptoms of a Failing Concentric Slave Cylinder
- Clutch pedal feels spongy, soft, or goes to the floor
- Clutch will not disengage fully — difficulty selecting gears or gears crunch when changing
- Clutch fluid level dropping without visible external leaks
- Clutch judder or inconsistent engagement
- Hydraulic fluid visible inside the bellhousing on inspection
Why Replace the CSC During Clutch or Flywheel Work?
The concentric slave cylinder is located inside the gearbox bellhousing and is only accessible when the gearbox is removed. Since gearbox removal is required for any clutch or flywheel replacement, it is strongly recommended to replace the CSC at the same time — regardless of whether it has failed. The labour cost of a second gearbox removal to replace a CSC that fails shortly after a clutch job far outweighs the cost of the part. At this price point, replacing the CSC preventatively during clutch or flywheel work is straightforward insurance.
Recommended Replacement Interval
The CSC should be replaced whenever the gearbox is removed. It is a wear item with a finite service life and is not serviceable — when it fails, it must be replaced as a complete unit. Given its inaccessible location, preventative replacement during any gearbox-off work is best practice.
