Power Steering Hose & Fittings

BRT Motorsport builds and supplies high-pressure power steering hoses, fittings and adaptors for repair, replacement and custom line builds. We hold 46 power steering parts in stock, crimp fittings in-house, and make hoses up to length to your specification.

Which power steering hose do I need?

We supply two power steering hose systems. Which one you need depends on the job.

  • 3/8" OEM-style hose with crimped fittings — the direct replacement route. Use this when you are repairing or replacing a factory power steering line and want it to fit and look like the original. 1,650 PSI operating, 7,800 PSI burst. £0.03 per millimetre — order a quantity of 1,000 for one metre.
  • AN6 PTFE stainless steel braided hose — the motorsport route. 2,750 PSI maximum operating pressure, lighter, and available with either reusable ends you can fit yourself or swaged ends for a permanent assembly. £12.99 per metre.

As a rule of thumb: matching an OE line, use 3/8"; building something new for a swap or a track car, use AN6.

3/8" OEM-style hose fittings — crimped in-house

We crimp these fittings onto 3/8" hose in our own workshop, so you can order a finished line rather than a box of parts. Available in the four thread families you will actually meet:

  • AN6 (9/16"-18 UNF) female — straight £8.49, 45° swivel £11.65, 90° swivel £13.80
  • 5/8"-18 UNF male — straight £16.00, 45° £16.00, 90° £13.45. Female — straight £9.99, 45° £16.29, 90° £14.90
  • 1/2"-20 UNF male — straight £14.90, 45° £12.25, 90° £14.29
  • Metric — M16 90° male £7.99, 14mm banjo £13.20

Joining hose to rigid steel tube: compression fittings for 3/8" tube £16.75, 10mm tube £16.09 and 5/16" tube £12.39. These are what you need when the corroded section sits in the middle of an otherwise sound OE line.

AN6 braided hose ends

Swaged ends — permanently swaged for a sealed assembly, in alloy or stainless steel:

  • Straight — alloy £25.94, stainless £41.87
  • 45° — alloy £30.77, stainless £52.97
  • 90° — alloy £33.87, stainless £52.97
  • M14 banjo hose end — alloy £33.87, stainless £65.84

Reusable ends — AN6 JIC hose ends can be undone and refitted, so a line can be re-made or re-routed without replacing the fittings. Choose these if the routing may change. You will find them in our AN6 hose and fittings range.

Adaptors — which thread do I need?

Power steering systems use two thread families. Identify yours and order the matching adaptor:

  • Metric O-ring tip (most European vehicles) — AN6 to M14 x 1.5, M16 x 1.5 and M18 x 1.5. Available in steel (£8.64 across all three sizes) or aluminium (M14 and M16 £8.99, M18 £21.99)
  • Imperial inverted flare (common on US and Japanese systems) — AN6 to 1/2" x 20 (£8.99), 5/8" x 18 (£8.24), 9/16" x 18 (£11.78) and 11/16" x 18 (£11.78)
  • Banjo adaptors — M14 and M16 to AN6 £7.68, M18 to AN6 £8.50, anodised alloy
  • Anodised alloy adaptors — M14 x 1.5 to AN6 £4.99, M16 x 1.5 to AN6 £5.18

O-ring face seal fittings are used on high-pressure circuits because they seal on a compressed O-ring rather than a metal-to-metal face, which tolerates the pressure spikes a power steering pump produces.

Don't forget the consumables: banjo bolts in M14 x 1.25, M14 x 1.5, M16 x 1.5 and M18 x 1.5 anodised alloy at £3.95, M14 x 1.5 steel at £2.10, and copper sealing washers from £0.30 — used in pairs, one either side of the banjo.

Built by us, or parts to build yourself

Tell us the length, the fitting angle at each end and the threads on your rack and pump, and we will make the hose up — crimped onto 3/8" hose or swaged onto AN6. Most orders are made up same or next working day. If you would rather assemble it yourself, we will send the hose and reusable ends as parts instead. If you are unsure of the length you need, get in touch and we will advise.
