Inner vs Outer Tie Rod — Which Do I Need?

The inner tie rod (drum stick) threads directly into the steering rack and connects to the outer track rod end. If you have play or knocking from the steering rack area, or if the inner joint is worn or damaged, the inner tie rod needs replacing.
