Braided Brake Hoses & Brake Fittings

Stainless steel braided brake hoses and the full range of end fittings to build them, made to order in the UK by BRT Motorsport. Every hose is built to your specified length, colour and fitting combination .

Rubber brake hoses expand under pressure. That expansion is what gives an older car its soft, vague pedal: some of the force you apply at the pedal goes into swelling the hose rather than clamping the pads. A PTFE-lined hose inside a stainless braid doesn't expand, so pedal feel is firmer, more consistent, and doesn't deteriorate as the fluid heats up on track.

Hose specification

  • PTFE inner core — chemically inert, unaffected by brake fluid, and dimensionally stable under heat
  • Stainless steel outer braid — resists abrasion, stone chips and corrosion
  • 4,206 PSI maximum working pressure
  • Nine colours — red, blue, black, yellow, orange, green, purple, carbon and clear
  • Built to order, from 80mm to 8,000mm

Identifying the fitting you need

Most people come here knowing they need a hose and not knowing which end fittings. Four things determine it:

Thread size and pitch. The common brake threads are M10x1, M10x1.25, M10x1.5, M12x1, M12x1.25, M12x1.5, 3/8" UNF, 7/16"x20, 7/16"x24 and 1/8" BSP. M10x1 is by far the most common on European cars. Thread pitch matters as much as diameter — an M10x1 will start to thread into an M10x1.25 port and then bind.

Male or female. A male fitting has the external thread and screws into a port. A female fitting has an internal thread and receives a male union.

Fixed or swivel. A swivel nut rotates freely on the hose end, letting you align the hose without twisting it during installation. A fixed fitting doesn't, so the hose must be routed to suit. Swivel is easier to fit in almost every case.

Circlip groove or plain. Many VAG, Ford, Renault and Toyota calipers locate the hose with a circlip or horseshoe clip that sits in a machined groove on the fitting. If your original hose has a clip retaining it at the caliper or chassis bracket, you need a circlip groove fitting rather than a plain one.

  • Bulkhead fittings and lock nuts — M10x1, M16 external, 3/8" UNF and 7/16", for chassis pass-throughs
  • Clutch fittings — Audi, BMW, Renault Mégane and Renault push-in connectors
  • Braided hose by the millimetre — in all nine colours

Building a custom hose

Use our Custom Brake Hose Builder to specify both ends, the angle at each end, colour and exact length, and we'll build it. Straight, 20°, 45° and 90° bends are available on most fittings.
